WATCH the video of the George Floyd 2019 arrest—one year before his fatal 2020 arrest. You’ll see striking similarities.
This is the video Judge Cahill, who is presiding over the trial for former police officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis, is reconsidering allowing in as evidence. Cahill had previously denied this request by the defense. But new evidence has caused him to reconsider. He may rule on this by Thursday or Friday.
While listening to the defense attorneys Wednesday, Cahill seemed to agree that this 2019 video might speak to Floyd’s physiology–how the drugs in each case caused his body to react. In the 2019 arrest, Floyd also appeared to have ingested drugs. This caused a medic to warn Floyd he was about to die from that. In the current trial, the cause of death is the key issue.
