Awesome Procession:

The Lincoln, NE Police Officer, was shot while serving a warrant on Vazquez for the stabbing death of a man last March. Vazquez had already been charged with second-degree assault for the shooting, but the day after Herrera’s death, prosecutors upgraded the charge to first-degree murder. Herrera is the first Lincoln Police Officer killed in the line of duty since 1968. He brings the total number of police officers killed in the line of duty nationally to 98 already this year.

Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird gave an emotional press conference thanking the city for coming together to offer support for Officer Herrera during his two-week battle for life. Pausing at times, she said, “We gave blood, we gave support. We gave whatever we could. Two fundraisers for his family yesterday, a day filled not only with sadness but with a profound sense of unity”. Will anyone in blue states say his name?
