Surveillance cameras show the moment a Florida man saves his puppy from an alligator. Richard Wilbanks fearlessly charges into the water to rescue his dog, Gunner, as the gator pulls him underwater. Then Wilbanks grabs the reptile with his bare hands and pries open his jaws. A yelping Gunner escapes with only a puncture wound. After his brave act, Wilbanks’s hands are “just chewed up.”
“(Pets are) like children to us, so there was no second thought whatsoever,” Wilbanks told WLWT5 TV. He acted on “instinct.”
“I would like to emphasize for people that have pets to make sure that they keep them away from the edge of the water,” Wilbanks said.
The entire incident was caught on camera thanks to a partnership between the Florida Wildlife Federation and the fSTOP Foundation, according to WLWT5 TV.
